![]() Without resorting to the all-too-adult double entendres that dominate many family films, this one focuses more on slapstick humor and innocence to convey its story. Its endearing story and a charming performance by Culkin make Home Alone a standout among the usual holiday movie fare. This is a good-natured, albeit unrealistic, family film that both kids and adults will enjoy if they're OK with the violence, profanity, and disrespectful behavior. A bevy of violent, slapstick, wince-inducing episodes ensues as Kevin fights to foil the burglars' plans. It's up to Kevin to defend his home, using every prank in his well-stocked arsenal. Meanwhile, a pair of bumbling burglars played by Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern take advantage of the situation by pillaging the neighborhood. With all of the block's other families also away, Kevin has no one to turn to. He misses his mom (who tries any and every means of getting home to her son) and even his brother, who bullies him. At first Kevin is elated - but pretty soon he realizes that being home alone isn't all it's cracked up to be. He gets his wish the next morning when they mistakenly leave him behind. While everyone is preparing for a Christmas vacation in Paris, Kevin gets in trouble, is banished to the attic overnight, and wishes his family would just disappear. HOME ALONE is the story of 8-year-old Kevin ( Macaulay Culkin), a mischievous kid who feels largely ignored by his large extended family. Profanity includes "ass," "bitch," "damn," "hell," and "s-t." Overall, the movie is fun for kids and adults, but the violence and language make it inappropriate for younger children. He finds an issue of Playboy in a secret stash in his older brother's room but doesn't express much interest in it. ![]() Kevin also is shown watching a violent gangster movie that involves a character being repeatedly shot with a machine gun. Dangerous behavior with no real consequences includes Kevin sledding down the stairs and out the front door or going out shopping and walking alone after dark. There's no diversity (all characters are White and mostly male), and there's a ton of slapstick violence: Kevin trips would-be burglars down a flight of stairs, burns them, hits them with heavy objects, places sharp items on the ground for them to step on, and shoots them with a BB gun. Expect disrespect between kids and adults and sibling name-calling early in the movie: Kevin is called a "disease" and "puke" by his older siblings and even a "little jerk" by his uncle, while Kevin talks back to his mother. The picture included a pumpkin in a witch’s hat, a spider web, ghosts and bats with the word “Halloween” underneath. In 2014, Jeremy Wood drove over 10,000 miles across the United Kingdom to draw a GPS image for Halloween. Some of his other creations have included his own name, the words “still the one,” and drawings of mascots. Yassan quit his job in 2008 to pursue his passion for large-scale GPS images. Generating artistic drawings using GPS tracking devices goes far beyond just messages of love for Valentine’s Day, however. His journey was also featured in an ad campaign and a documentary series by Hi-Tec, a producer of hiking boots and shoes called Walkumentary. Yassan’s marriage proposal has been certified by the Guinness Book of the World Records as the world’s largest GPS drawing. When Yassan arrived back at home, he plotted his route onto Google Maps, spelling out “marry me” over the large island of Honshu and a heart with an arrow through it over Hokkaido. During the six months it took him, Yassan covered over 7,100 kilometers (about 4400 miles) mostly by walking but also using a car, bicycle, and ferry. In 2010, Yassan journeyed across the entire country in order to propose to his girlfriend. While Murphy’s proposal takes Payam’s heart to another level, the ultimate GPS tracking gesture of love might belong to the Japanese artist Yasushi Takahashi, also known as Yassan. Murphy Mack used his bike and GPS to propose to his girlfriend. Mack not only proposed but surrounded the words with a heart. His route covered 18 miles, took 80 minutes, and burned about 750 calories. Like Payam, Mack rode out his proposal on the streets of San Francisco. Murphy Mack also used his bike to map out the words “marry me Emily” using Strava, a free software that cyclists like to record their routes, elevation, and speed. The map spelled out “Lorinda, will you marry me?” After the initial surprise, her response was, “of course” which she then mapped out herself using her own GPS.Įndomondo is not the only mapping application that has been used to propose geographically. ![]() While the two were together, Gary shared that he had gone for a bike ride and asked Lorinda to look at his ride by sharing the link to his workout. In the end, Gary took the afternoon off work, rode the proposal workout, and met his girlfriend for dinner. ![]() The original idea was to run the route but he went with his bike instead. Gary had wanted to propose for her birthday and spent a couple weeks scouting the local area for the perfect spot. The Verizon commercial encouraged a man named Gary to take the idea one step further and propose to his girlfriend, Lorinda, via a GPS message using the popular Endomondo fitness application. His ride inspired other romantic gestures. He was ultimately featured in a short commercial from Verizon. Rajabi got more out of his ordeal than just the admiration of Clare, however. Of course, Payam had to include an elevation map of his ride, demonstrating the depth of his love as he pumped over the many hills of San Francisco. Payam and Clare were in a long-distance relationship ever since he had to move from Toronto to San Francisco. By tracking himself with his GPS while he rode, Payam inscribed his message of love while covering 27 miles and burning over 1100 calories in 2 ½ hours. In 2013, Payam Rajabi decided to show how much he cared about his girlfriend, Clare, by carefully etching a heart shape onto a city map of San Francisco using his iPhone and bike.
